Thinking of a Siesta Key vacation and want to bring your furry friend? While pets aren't allowed on Siesta Key’s public beaches, there are many nearby spots where you can stroll, dine, explore, and even let your dog play in the Gulf.
Here are some of the best pet-friendly places to visit around Siesta Key and Sarasota.
Important: Are Dogs Allowed on Siesta Key Beach?
Siesta Beach only allows service animals. This rule is also in effect for other public beach areas on Siesta Key, so consider alternative plans if your dog requires exercise or water activities.
Always check posted signs and current rules before bringing a pet to any beach, park or business.
1. Explore Siesta Key Village
Siesta Key Village is an enjoyable spot to walk with your leashed dog, particularly in the cooler mornings or evenings. You can explore the area, soak in the island ambiance, and visit establishments that offer pet-friendly outdoor seating.
TIP: Bring water for your dog because the pavement can become very hot during the afternoon.
2. Enjoy a Pet-Friendly Patio
Several Siesta Key restaurants and cafés welcome dogs at outdoor tables. Current pet-friendly listings include places such as Mojo Risin’ Coffee Company and The Big Tiki Lounge, although patio policies can change.
TIP: Check Bring Fido for pet friendly restaurants on Siesta Key. Call ahead before arriving, especially during busy weekends or peak vacation season. Ask whether dogs are currently allowed and whether outdoor seating is available.

3. Visit Brohard Paw Park and Dog Beach
Situated in Venice, Brohard Paw Park is a worthwhile destination for water-loving dogs. It is the designated dog-friendly beach in Sarasota County, where dogs can relish the sand and waves.
The area also provides dog-friendly facilities that simplify rinsing off and cleaning up after your beach outing.
Location: 1600 Harbor Drive South, Venice
4. Let Them Play at 17th Street Paw Park
In Sarasota, the 17th Street Paw Park offers fenced, off-leash zones for dogs to play and interact. There are distinct areas for large and small dogs, as well as water stations and shaded seating available. (Beachpoint Cottages)
This could be an excellent choice if your dog requires more exercise than a regular walk offers.
Location: 2521 17th Street, Sarasota
5. Walk Through a Sarasota County Dog-Friendly Park
Sarasota County provides a variety of dog-friendly parks, preserves, and trails. In these designated areas, pets typically need to be kept on a hand-held leash that is no longer than six feet.
These parks are perfect for a peaceful stroll, some light exercise, or a respite from the sand and crowds.
TIP - Don't forget to bring:
Water and a portable bowl
Waste bags
A secure leash
Flea and tick protection
A towel for wet or sandy paws
6. Take a Scenic Walk Around Sarasota Bay

Taking a stroll along the waterfront near Sarasota Bay offers you and your dog stunning views without needing to access a restricted beach area. Seek out shaded trails and consider visiting early in the morning or around sunset when the weather is cooler.
After walking your dog, stop by O’Leary’s Tiki Bar & Grill for a relaxed waterfront bite. Their outdoor setting makes it a convenient spot to unwind with your pup nearby while enjoying views of Sarasota Bay.
TIP - Keep your dog on a leash and be vigilant for wildlife, cyclists, and other pets.
7. Plan a Pet-Friendly Picnic

Pack snacks, water and a blanket and enjoy a picnic at a park that permits leashed pets. Choose a shaded location and avoid feeding your dog unfamiliar restaurant food, bones or anything containing onions, garlic, chocolate or artificial sweeteners.
Never leave a pet unattended in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. Florida temperatures can become dangerous very quickly.
Tips for Visiting Siesta Key With a Pet

The heat in Florida necessitates some additional planning. Plan walks for the early morning or
evening, provide water often, and test the pavement before letting your dog walk on it.
Travelers with pets can find pet-friendly accommodations through Take a Siesta Key. Our Gulf-front rental and our centrally located Siesta Key rental may permit pets with prior host approval and an extra pet fee.
Pet approval is evaluated individually, so guests are encouraged to reach out to our rental management company prior to booking to discuss their pet, understand any restrictions, and confirm availability.
A Pet-Friendly Siesta Key Vacation
While your dog might not be allowed directly on the beaches of Siesta Key, there are still numerous ways to involve them in your vacation. Sarasota provides a variety of enjoyable options for travelers with pets, including outdoor patios, island walks, fenced dog parks, and a nearby dedicated dog beach.
A little advance planning will help everyone in the family enjoy a safe, relaxing and memorable Gulf Coast getaway.
