There’s something pretty satisfying about spending the day fishing around Siesta Key and then eating your own catch for dinner.

The good news? You don’t necessarily have to cook it yourself.

Several restaurants on and around Siesta Key offer some version of “Hook & Cook” or “You Hook It, We Cook It,”where you bring in your freshly caught, cleaned fish and the kitchen prepares it for you.

So if a fishing charter is part of your Siesta Key vacation plans, here are some places to keep in mind.

🎣 How Does “Hook & Cook” Work?

It’s usually pretty simple:

  1. Catch your fish.

  2. Have your charter captain clean and fillet it for you.

  3. Keep the fish properly chilled.

  4. Call the restaurant to confirm they’re accepting fresh catch that day.

  5. Bring in your fillets and let the kitchen take it from there.

Depending on the restaurant, you may be able to choose from preparations like grilled, blackened, fried, baked or broiled, often with sides from the regular menu.

Policies, pricing and eligible fish can change, so always call the restaurant before showing up with your catch.

🐟 Daiquiri Deck – Siesta Key Village

If you want to go straight from a day on the water to the heart of Siesta Key Village, Daiquiri Deck is an easy option to check.

Daiquiri Deck

The Siesta Key location has been known to offer cook-your-catch preparations including grilled, blackened and fried.

It’s also a fun choice if your group wants a casual island atmosphere rather than a formal dinner.

Best for: A casual post-fishing dinner in Siesta Key Village.

🌴 Clayton’s Siesta Grille – South Siesta Key

For something a little more dinner-oriented, Clayton’s Siesta Grille is worth calling.

Clayton’s has offered more elaborate fresh-catch preparations than the typical grilled-or-fried approach, including options such as baked, broiled, encrusted or stuffed, depending on availability and current kitchen policies.

Because their preparation may require additional time, this is one where you'll definitely want to call ahead before arriving with your fish. (941) 349-2800

Best for: Turning the day's catch into a special dinner.

🍺 My Village Pub – Siesta Key Village

Another convenient Village option is My Village Pub.

Local fishing-charter recommendations have included My Village Pub as a place to ask about having your fresh catch prepared grilled, blackened or fried.

And if you're in vacation mode, there's another possibility worth asking about:

Fresh fish tacos made from the fish you caught that morning.

It doesn't get much more Siesta Key than that.

Best for: Casual dining, families and fish tacos after a day on the water.

TIP: Call ahead as service times may be limited, especially during the busy season. (941) 777-6787

Big Water Fish Market is already all about fresh seafood, making it another place worth checking when you have a cooler containing your own catch.

Visitors and local fishing-charter customers have reported having freshly caught and cleaned fish prepared here.

As with any cook-your-catch restaurant, call before heading over to make sure they're currently able to accommodate you.

Best for: Seafood lovers looking for a laid-back local experience. 941-554-8101

If you don't mind heading off the Key, Walt’s Fish Market & Restaurant is one of Sarasota's best-

known seafood institutions.

Walt's has been identified as a restaurant that will prepare properly cleaned fresh catch, with preparations such as fried, broiled or blackened.

It's a great option if you're spending part of the day exploring Sarasota before heading back to Siesta Key.

Best for: A classic Sarasota seafood experience.

Want to combine your catch with waterfront views?

O’Leary’s Tiki Bar & Grill, located along Sarasota's Bayfront, has also been listed among area restaurants offering cook-your-catch service, including preparations such as grilled, blackened or fried.

Its location makes this an especially fun option if you want to combine dinner with a walk around Bayfront Park.

Best for: A relaxed waterfront meal off Siesta Key.

Before You Bring Your Fish to a Restaurant

A little planning can make the whole experience much easier.

Cook and Catch Siesta Key - tips

  • Numerous restaurants mandate that the fish must be caught on a certified fishing charter.

  • Have the fish professionally cleaned.

  • Most restaurants aren't looking for you to walk through the door carrying an entire fish. Ask your charter captain whether cleaning and filleting your catch is included. Many local captains routinely do this for guests.

  • Keep it cold. Your fish should remain properly chilled from the time it's cleaned until you arrive at the restaurant.

  • Call first. This is probably the most important tip. Restaurant policies, prices, preparation options and availability can change.

Simply call and ask:

“We caught some fish today and have cleaned fillets. Are you currently offering cook-your- catch?”

You can also ask how much fish they'll accept, whether reservations are required and how they want it packaged.

Depending on the season, location and type of fishing trip, catches around Sarasota and Siesta Key can include species such as:

Fishing seasons, size limits and harvest regulations vary by species, so your charter captain can help make sure any fish you keep is legal to harvest.

Make It Part of Your Siesta Key Vacation

If you've never taken a fishing charter while visiting Siesta Key, this is one of the best reasons to try it.

Instead of simply going out to catch fish, make an entire day out of the experience:

Morning fishing charter → afternoon at the beach → your own fresh catch for dinner.

And even if the fish aren't cooperating that day, you're still in one of the best places in Florida to find fresh Gulf seafood.
