Things to do with Toddlers and Young Kids Siesta Key

A vacation to Siesta Key isn't just for adults—it's one of Florida's best destinations for families with babies, toddlers, and young children. From soft white sand and calm Gulf waters to playgrounds, wildlife, and kid-friendly attractions, there are plenty of ways to keep little ones entertained while creating lifelong memories. Here are some of our favorite toddler-approved activities both on Siesta Key and just a short drive away.

1. Build Sandcastles at Siesta Key Beach

The world-famous quartz sand at Siesta Beach stays cool underfoot, making it ideal for little feet—even during warmer afternoons. The beach has plenty of room to spread out, and the shallow shoreline is perfect for supervised splashing and playing.

Bring:

  • Buckets and shovels

  • Beach toys

  • Shade tent or umbrella

  • Plenty of snacks and water

Parent Tip: Visit before 10:30 a.m. for cooler temperatures, easier parking, and calmer conditions. Consider having your beach gear delivered!

2. Visit the Playground at Siesta Beach

Need a break from the sand? The large playground near the pavilion lets kids climb, slide, and burn off energy before or after beach time. Nearby picnic tables, restrooms, and concessions make it an easy stop for families.

3. Meet Sharks, Sea Turtles, and Otters at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium

Just a short drive from Siesta Key, this aquarium is one of the area's best family attractions. Young children love seeing:

  • Sharks

  • Sea turtles

  • Stingrays

  • Otters

  • Colorful reef fish

Interactive exhibits and daily presentations help keep kids engaged while introducing them to Florida's marine life.

4. Hunt for Seashells

Turn a beach walk into a treasure hunt. Kids love collecting shells along the shoreline, especially early in the morning after the tide changes. Remember to leave any shells that still have living creatures inside so marine life stays protected.

5. Grab Ice Cream in Siesta Key Village

Nothing says vacation like ice cream after a day at the beach. Stroll through Siesta Key Village and let the kids enjoy a sweet treat while parents browse local shops or relax with a coffee.

6. Take a Dolphin Cruise

  • Manatees (seasonally)

The calm ride through Sarasota Bay is exciting for children without being too adventurous.

  • Open green space

  • Dolphins and boats to watch

It's a great option when everyone needs a break from the beach.

9. Play at Turtle Beach

While Siesta Beach is famous for its powdery sand, Turtle Beach offers a different experience. Families enjoy:

  • Playground

  • Picnic shelters

  • Short boardwalk

  • Shell hunting

  • Fewer crowds

It's a wonderful change of pace if you've already spent several days at Siesta Beach.

10. Keep Vacation Simple
